Fresh Clashes Erupt in Bhangar Over Waqf (Amendment) Act; Vehicles Set Ablaze

Tensions in South 24 parganas rising
(more details awaited)

Tension gripped the Bhangar area of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal as fresh violence broke out during protests led by workers of the Indian Secular Front (ISF) against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The agitation took a violent turn as ISF supporters clashed with city police, setting several vehicles on fire and overturning a police van.

Among the vehicles torched was a police van, and visuals from the spot show charred remains and rising smoke. Law enforcement officials reportedly faced resistance while trying to disperse the mob, leading to further escalation of the situation.

This incident comes on the heels of recent unrest in Murshidabad, where similar anti-Waqf Act protests had turned violent. That wave of violence reportedly led to the displacement of several Hindu families, who fled their homes out of fear.

The situation in Bhangar remains tense, and additional security forces have been deployed to restore order. More details are awaited as the authorities continue to monitor the developments closely.
