Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Sets Stage for First State Conference, Eyes Tamil Nadu’s 2026 Assembly Polls
Vikravandi, Tamil Nadu — After multiple postponements, Tamil film icon and emerging political figure Vijay will host the inaugural state conference for his new party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Vikravandi, Villupuram district, on Sunday, October 27. This highly anticipated gathering, expected to draw over 200,000 supporters, marks a pivotal moment for the TVK as it positions itself within Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, particularly with the state’s 2026 Assembly elections on the horizon.
In the week leading up to the event, Vijay expressed his excitement about welcoming party cadres, specifically stating that he would be present to greet them at V Salai near the venue. Known for his powerful fan base, Vijay’s political move has captivated audiences across the state. For the actor-politician, Sunday’s conference will not only be a showcase of his rising influence but also an opportunity to define his vision for Tamil Nadu.
However, the lead-up has not been without challenges. On October 20, Vijay issued a statement urging pregnant women, elderly individuals, and school-aged children to avoid the event due to safety concerns, emphasizing the logistical complexities of managing an audience of this scale. Additional statements on October 25 and October 26 underscored his focus on public safety, urging attendees to avoid traffic disruptions en route to the venue.
The TVK’s first state conference boasts a grand scale: situated on 85 acres, with a 170×65 ft stage and a towering 100-foot flagpole displaying the party’s colors. These symbolic choices underline Vijay’s intent to establish TVK as a formidable force, challenging the ruling DMK’s dominance as well as AIADMK’s and BJP’s footholds since the last state elections.
The timing is significant, taking place mere weeks after Udhayanidhi Stalin’s recent elevation to Deputy Chief Minister—a move seen as reinforcing DMK’s stronghold. As Vijay is set to announce TVK’s ideological stance at the conference, political observers and supporters alike will be keen to understand how his agenda may resonate within Tamil Nadu’s electorate, and potentially sway voters in what has traditionally been DMK territory.
