West Bengal Political Tensions Rise as MPs Face Notice, TMC Factions Clash and Jhargram Cop Caught Taking Bribe
Political developments in West Bengal have taken a fresh turn, with the Lok Sabha Speaker’s office issuing notices to Nationalist Congress Party of India (NCPI) MPs, tensions rising between two factions of the Trinamool Congress over the party’s student wing foundation day celebrations, and a police constable being caught allegedly accepting a bribe in Jhargram.
The notices to the NCPI MPs were issued following a petition filed by Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, seeking disqualification of the MPs under the anti-defection law. The move has added another layer to the ongoing political battle and could lead to a detailed examination of the MPs’ political affiliation and conduct.
The Speaker’s office has sought responses from the concerned MPs as part of the process. The issue is now being closely watched as the proceedings could have political implications for both the MPs and their party.
At the same time, differences within the Trinamool Congress have become increasingly visible over the celebration of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad’s foundation day. Leaders and supporters belonging to two different camps of the party have been engaged in a war of words over the organisation and conduct of the event.
The disagreement has once again brought attention to the factional tensions within the ruling party’s student wing, with both sides putting forward their own positions.
The Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, the student wing of the TMC, observes its foundation day every year with rallies, meetings and political programmes. This year, however, the celebrations have been accompanied by growing differences between the two camps, turning the event into another point of political confrontation within the party.
Meanwhile, in Jhargram, a police constable was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe. The constable was reportedly trapped during an operation after allegations of bribery were received. The incident has raised questions about corruption within the police administration and is likely to trigger further investigation into the matter. Officials are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged bribe and determine whether any other individuals were involved.
The three developments the Lok Sabha notice to NCPI MPs, the internal dispute over the TMC student wing’s foundation day and the arrest of a constable in a bribery case have added to the political and administrative activity across West Bengal.
