90% of Private Schools in Purulia’s Raghunathpur Lack Valid Documents, Education Department Issues Notices
The West Bengal government has taken strict action against private schools operating without proper legal documents and approvals. The move has raised concerns over the functioning of several private educational institutions in Purulia district, particularly in the Raghunathpur subdivision.
According to available information, more than 50 small and large private schools are currently operating across the Raghunathpur subdivision. However, it is alleged that around 90 per cent of these schools do not have all the necessary legal documents and government approvals required to operate an educational institution.
The issue has come under the attention of the district education authorities, who have started taking action against such schools. Officials from the district education department have reportedly issued notices to several private schools, asking them to provide details of their registration, recognition and other required documents.
The government’s action is aimed at ensuring that private schools follow the rules and regulations laid down by the education department. Schools are generally required to maintain proper records and obtain the necessary permissions before admitting students and conducting academic activities. Authorities are now checking whether the institutions operating in the subdivision have fulfilled these requirements.
The lack of proper documentation has also raised questions about the recognition and legal status of some of these schools. Parents often choose private schools because of their accessibility, facilities and academic environment. Therefore, the authorities are also expected to examine whether students studying in such institutions could face difficulties in the future because of the schools’ lack of valid recognition or approval.
The education department’s notices are understood to be part of a wider effort to bring private educational institutions under proper regulatory supervision. Schools that fail to produce the required documents may face further administrative action, depending on the findings of the authorities.
The development has created concern among school authorities and parents in the Raghunathpur area. While the government has maintained that schools must comply with existing rules, parents are likely to seek clarity about the recognition status of their children’s institutions.
Officials are expected to continue the verification process and examine the documents submitted by the schools. Further action will depend on whether the institutions can establish that they have the necessary permissions and are complying with the education department’s regulations.
The crackdown is significant because it highlights the government’s growing focus on regulating private schools and ensuring that educational institutions operate within the legal framework. The authorities are likely to take appropriate steps against schools found to be functioning without the required approvals, while also seeking to protect the academic interests of students enrolled in these institutions.
