EC Orders Repoll in Assam’s Karimganj North After Poll Irregularities

Guwahati, April 11, 2026: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a repoll in a polling station in Assam’s Karimganj North constituency after officials detected irregularities during the initial voting process. Authorities scheduled the fresh polling for April 11 to ensure a free and fair election.

The Commission took the decision after reviewing ground reports and “all material circumstances” related to the April 9 polling. Officials declared the earlier voting at the affected booth void, citing disturbances that compromised the integrity of the process.

Election authorities identified the affected location as a polling station in Sribhumi district’s Karimganj North Assembly constituency. Reports indicated clashes between political supporters and disruptions at the booth, prompting concerns over fair voting conditions.

Officials confirmed that repolling began early on April 11 under heightened security arrangements. Authorities deployed additional personnel and strengthened monitoring systems to prevent any recurrence of irregularities. Voters turned up again to cast their ballots in a controlled and closely supervised environment.
