Imphal, April 10, 2026: In a shocking incident that has intensified tensions in the violence-hit state of Manipur, two young children from the Meitei community were killed in a suspected bomb or rocket attack in Bishnupur district. The attackers remain unidentified, and authorities are now considering handing over the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a detailed probe.
According to official sources, the attack took place late at night when the victims were inside their home. The explosion resulted in the tragic death of the children, while their mother sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. The nature of the attack suggests the possible use of high-grade explosives or a projectile weapon.
Security forces have started a large search operation in the area, but no group or person has taken responsibility yet. Early reports suggest the attack may be linked to the ongoing conflict between Meitei and Kuki groups in Manipur, but this has not been confirmed.
The shocking killing has caused anger among people, leading to protests in many parts of the valley. Due to the rising tension, the government has imposed curfew in sensitive areas and increased security to stop further violence.
Officials said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is being considered, because the incident is very serious and may involve advanced weapons. The agency, which handles terror-related cases, will carry out a detailed investigation if the case is officially given to it.
This tragic incident highlights the continuing unrest in Manipur, where ethnic tensions have led to repeated violence over the past few years. Authorities have appealed for calm and assured that strict action will be taken once those responsible are identified.
