Gas Crunch Forces Restaurants to Shut Down
Several restaurants across major cities in India are facing temporary shutdowns due to a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders used for cooking. The disruption in gas supply has made it difficult for many restaurant owners to operate their kitchens, forcing them to either close temporarily or limit their services.

Restaurants across major cities are facing temporary shutdowns due to a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders.
According to industry reports, many restaurants in cities such as Mumbai and Delhi have already reduced their operations because of the shortage. Some restaurants are working with limited cooking facilities, while others have suspended services until gas supplies become stable again.
Restaurant owners say the situation is becoming increasingly difficult for the food service industry. โMost restaurant kitchens depend entirely on LPG for cooking. Without a proper supply, it becomes almost impossible for us to run our kitchens smoothly,โ said a restaurant owner in Mumbai.
Some restaurants are now trying to adapt to the situation by finding alternative solutions. A few have started using induction stoves or other cooking methods to continue serving customers. However, owners say these alternatives cannot fully replace commercial LPG in busy restaurant kitchens.
Industry representatives have also expressed concern about the growing impact of the shortage. โIf the supply of commercial LPG cylinders does not improve soon, many restaurants may have no choice but to shut down temporarily,โ said a representative from a restaurant association.
At the same time, authorities in several cities have been conducting food safety inspections and raids to check hygiene standards in restaurants. In some cases, restaurants have been shut down after expired or unsafe food products were discovered during inspections.
Experts believe that both the gas supply issue and stricter safety checks are putting additional pressure on restaurant businesses. Restaurant associations have urged the government to ensure a stable supply of commercial LPG so that restaurants can continue their operations without further disruption.
For now, restaurant owners remain hopeful that the situation will improve soon. โWe just hope the supply becomes normal again. Restaurants are already recovering from earlier challenges, and another disruption like this is difficult for the industry,โ another restaurant owner said.
