Khalid Jamil’s Debut Triumph: India Edge Past Tajikistan 2-1

30 August-Kolkata, India: The Indian national football team made a dream start in the opening match of the CAFA Nations Cup under their new head coach Khalid Jamil, after the Indian football team defeated the Tajikistan national football team by 2-1 on Friday.

It was a shocker for every fan and even the Tajikistan football team, which conceded goals from a lower-ranked team like India. The goals came in from two Indian defenders, Anwar Ali and Sandhesh Jhingan.

However, some of the credit should also go to the Bengaluru FC and Indian national team goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who made some of the incredible saves, which included a penalty save to protect the lead of the Blue Tigers.

This was former Jameshedpur FC’s coach Khalid Jamil’s first game in charge of the Blue Tigers, and he couldn’t have asked for a more favourable beginning. The Blue Tigers’ win also ended their streak of three games without scoring any goals.

Indian Fans praise Khalid Jamil

After the win, the Indian fans celebrated the victory and praised the former Jamshedpur FC coach on X, while many fans called it the Khalid Jamil era. Many praised the team’s tenacity and expressed optimism for a better future in Indian football after the victory. Some fans even joked that India won before Manchester United under Ruben Amorim.

Khalid Jamil became the first Indian coach to take charge of the Indian national football team. He took over the position earlier this month after Spanish player Manolo Marquez’s contract was mutually terminated. Before this, Jamil managed Jamshedpur FC, a team in the Indian Super League (ISL).
