“Ahmedabad School Horror: Class 10 Student Killed By Junior, Protests Erupt Across Gujarat”

Ahmedabad was shaken by a horrifying incident when a class 10 student was fatally stabbed by a class 8 junior outside the Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School in Khokhra. What began as a verbal spat soon escalated into a violent tragedy, leading to massive protests by parents and locals. The shocking death of the young boy has raised urgent questions about school safety, rising juvenile crime, and the influence of media on children.
The Incident: A Normal Day Turns Deadly
On Tuesday afternoon, as the school bell rang signaling the end of classes, Nayan, a class 10 student, packed his books and stepped out of the building. What seemed like the start of a routine walk home turned into a nightmare.
A group of juniors from class 8, including the accused, confronted him. Witnesses reported that the altercation began with verbal taunts and minor arguments. However, within minutes, it escalated — the 8th grader pulled out a knife and stabbed Nayan before fleeing the spot.
CCTV Footage Tells the Story
According to CCTV visuals obtained by the police, Nayan can be seen clutching his stomach, trying to stop the bleeding as he staggered back towards the school compound. Teachers and other students rushed to help him. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Maninagar, where despite efforts by doctors, he succumbed to his injuries the next day.
Police Action and Arrest
The Ahmedabad Police acted swiftly. The minor accused was arrested under the Juvenile Justice Act. The FIR initially registered under attempt to murder (Section 307 IPC) was later updated to murder charges (Section 302 IPC) after Nayan’s death.
The police also recorded statements of eyewitness students and seized the weapon used in the crime. Authorities are now investigating how the boy managed to bring a knife into school premises and whether the incident was premeditated.
Community in Shock: Protests Erupt
The brutal killing led to widespread outrage among parents and local communities. Hundreds gathered outside the Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School demanding justice and stricter safety measures in educational institutions.
The protest, however, soon turned violent. Members of ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) and enraged parents reportedly vandalized school property and clashed with staff. Broken windows, damaged furniture, and tense confrontations marked the protest, forcing heavy police deployment in the area.
Voices of Parents and Locals
Parents claimed that the school failed to maintain adequate security. “If a child can bring a knife inside the premises, what does it say about the administration?” asked one protester.
Another parent alleged that previous complaints about bullying and student fights had been ignored. “This tragedy could have been prevented if the school had acted earlier,” he said.
State Government Responds
Education Minister Prafulbhai Panseriya expressed deep condolences to Nayan’s grieving family. He appealed for calm and assured strict action.
“The government stands with the victim’s family. Justice will be ensured. We will also conduct a study on rising juvenile crime and the negative influence of violent online games and social media,” the minister said.
He emphasized the need for greater parental involvement, counseling in schools, and preventive steps to address aggression among children.
Broader Debate: Rising Juvenile Crime
This incident has reignited the debate over rising violence among minors in India. NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) data shows a disturbing increase in cases involving schoolchildren, including assault, gang fights, and weapon possession.
Key Factors Contributing to Juvenile Violence:
Peer Pressure & Bullying: Many altercations start with taunts or challenges. Access to Weapons: Easy availability of knives or sharp objects increases risks. Influence of Media & Games: Violent video games and social media content normalize aggression. Lack of Counseling: Schools often lack dedicated counselors to handle student conflicts. Family Environment: Domestic disputes or neglect may encourage aggressive behavior in children.
Safety in Schools: What Needs to Change?
Experts are calling for:
Mandatory school security checks to prevent entry of weapons. On-campus counselors to identify stress, bullying, or aggression. Stronger communication between parents and teachers. Strict enforcement of anti-bullying policies. Awareness programs on the dangers of juvenile crime.
Nayan’s Family Speaks
The victim’s family is inconsolable. “Our son went to school to learn, not to die,” said Nayan’s father. His relatives have demanded the harshest possible punishment for the accused, even though he is a minor.
