Education Reform: A Need, Not a Choice
Submitted By Dona Nandi

Education has always been considered the backbone of a nation’s progress. In today’s rapidly changing world, where technology, innovation, and creativity are reshaping every field, the role of education becomes more critical than ever. Our present generation stands at the crossroads of tradition and transformation, and the education system must rise to meet these new challenges. One of the greatest strengths of today’s education system is its growing accessibility. Digital platforms, online classes, and government initiatives have brought classrooms closer to children, even in remote corners of the country. Young minds now have exposure to global knowledge and opportunities at their fingertips. The new generation is far more aware, confident, and adaptable compared to the past.
However, challenges still remain. The system is often criticized for being heavily examination-oriented and focusing more on grades than skills. Education system in India, focus is more on memorization rather than understanding concepts, creativity, and application. Many schools and colleges still follow old syllabi, not keeping pace with modern industry requirements and global trends.Quality education is limited to urban/private institutions, while rural areas often face lack of resources, trained teachers, and infrastructure. Higher education often focuses on degrees rather than fostering research, innovation, and creativity. Now-a-days, high competition, excessive workload, and societal pressure for marks often lead to stress, anxiety, and even severe mental health problems among students.
To shape the future, education must go beyond textbooks. It should nurture problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and digital skills. Teachers must be empowered with better training and modern teaching tools, while schools and colleges should prioritize research, skill-based learning, and holistic development. Education must not only aim to create job-seekers but also innovators, leaders, and responsible citizens.
