A ceasefire deal hailed as a diplomatic breakthrough between Iran and Israel has collapsed within mere hours of its announcement, plunging the region back into uncertainty.

The agreement, announced on June 23 by former U.S. President Donald Trump, followed a series of U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear targets and retaliatory missile fire from Tehran. Trump declared a “complete and total ceasefire” after direct talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and parallel communications with Tehran, facilitated by U.S. envoys.

But by Tuesday, the situation had already unraveled.

Israel accused Iran of breaching the deal by launching fresh missiles, prompting Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz to order retaliatory action. Iran, however, flatly denied any post-ceasefire attack, calling the allegations “false and baseless” through its official media outlets.

Trump, who had initially celebrated the deal as a milestone, expressed frustration with both sides. “Israel. Do not drop those bombs,” he posted, urging all parties to uphold the fragile truce.
