In the shocking Varanasi gang rape case, a 19-year-old woman was reportedly subjected to a harrowing six-day ordeal by 23 individuals. Authorities have arrested six suspects and are actively pursuing the remaining accused.

Detailed Overview of the Varanasi Gang Rape Case

On March 29, the young woman left her residence to visit a friend’s house. During her return, she encountered an acquaintance who invited her to his café in Lanka. There, he and another individual allegedly assaulted her. The following day, another man offered her a ride, took her to a secluded location, and assaulted her before abandoning her in Nadesar.

Varanasi Gang Rape: Continuous Assault Over Several Days

Between March 31 and April 4, different groups of men took the victim to various hotels and hookah bars. They allegedly drugged her and assaulted her multiple times. On April 2, one assailant brought her to his residence and attempted to rape her, but fled when she resisted. Later, the group abandoned her at Assi Ghat while she was still intoxicated. On April 3, another group brought her to a friend’s room, drugged her again, assaulted her, and left her near Chowkghat.

Family’s Intervention and Police Action

Concerned about her absence, the victim’s family filed a missing person report on April 4. Upon her return home, she disclosed the traumatic events to her family, leading them to lodge a formal complaint on April 6. The police have since arrested six of the twelve named suspects: Raj Vishwakarma, Sameer, Ayush, Sohail, Danish, and Anmol. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

The authorities have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including gang rape, assault with intent to outrage modesty, causing hurt by means of poison, wrongful restraint and confinement, and criminal intimidation.
