Is Priyansh Arya the Next Big Cricket Sensation?

Chandigarh, April 8, 2025 – Punjab Kings won an 18-run game against Chennai Super Kings in an exciting IPL match. Although there were a few familiar faces on the field during the game, it was an emerging player, Priyansh Arya, who hogged the limelight by scoring his first IPL century off a mere 39 balls.

Arya’s fiery 103-run knock off 42 balls came studded with seven fours and nine sixes that took Punjab to a strong 219/6. He is now IPL’s fourth quickest century scorer, tying the 39-balls hit by Travis Head in 2024 along with the benchmarks of Chris Gayle (30 balls), Yusuf Pathan (37 balls), and David Miller (38 balls).

Following his Player of the Match award, when asked about his innings, Arya comments that- “The feeling is out of the world. I’m elated, but I would like to contribute even more for the team. That is my natural batting. Shreyas bhaiya said play with intent—don’t worry even if I get out, just back my instincts. I also needed to read the situation.”. I was thinking singles and doubles when Nehal arrived, but he instructed me to go by instinct, and I played accordingly. All the bowlers were very good, so any of them could have given me trouble.

Who is Priyansh Arya?

Before this IPL knockout, Arya had already made ripples in domestic cricket. His entry came in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) in August 2024, for which Arya played for South Delhi Superstarz. In the same match, he formed a record-breaking 286- run partnership with Ayush Badoni. Their combined efforts led to a massive total of 308/5. This match made headlines after he hit six 6’s in an over against North Delhi Strikers and scored an explosive 120 runs off just 50 balls.

He was rich with runs in the inaugural DPL season, scoring in excess of 600 runs in 10 innings as an opener. Arya showcased his explosive batting, effortlessly dismantling bowling attacks and leaving a lasting impression. By the end of the day, he had captured the attention of multiple IPL franchises eager to secure him for their teams.

Punjab Kings bought Arya for INR 3.8 crore just before the 2025 season, and he wasted no time since then, making an impact now and in the future.

Arya is all about the minimal footwork, a stable base, and a whopping bat swing, which makes up the “see ball, hit ball” approach. His fearless style of batting has earned praises from teammates and opponents alike. Punjab Kings’ captain, Shreyas Iyer, even said that Arya’s innings against CSK was “scintillating to watch” and one of the most incredible knocks I have witnessed in the IPL.

Priyansh Arya is already making quite a name for himself with a fearless approach, raw talent, and a knack for big-match performances. If he goes on like this, Indian cricket may have found its new big star.
