PCB Chief Naqvi Named Asian Cricket Council President

Pakistan’s cricket chief and New Asian Cricket Council President, Mohsin Naqvi.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi took over as the new president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Thursday. He replaced Sri Lanka Cricket chief Shammi Silva. Naqvi will serve in this role until 2027. The ACC rotates the presidency among its member countries, and this year it was Pakistan’s turn.

During a virtual ACC meeting, all member boards confirmed Naqvi’s appointment. BCCI vice president and ACC Board member Rajeev Shukla represented India in the meeting.

Asia Cup and Future Plans on Naqvi’s Agenda

Naqvi’s immediate focus is the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup, set to follow the T20 format. The tournament is scheduled for September, though the ACC has yet to finalize the venue.

“I am deeply honoured to lead the Asian Cricket Council,” Naqvi said in a media release. “I aim to work closely with all member boards to grow the game and increase its global presence.”

He stressed the importance of collaboration and unity, promising to explore new development opportunities and boost the visibility of Asian cricket worldwide.

Silva Reflects and Backs Naqvi

Outgoing president Shammi Silva praised the ACC community and showed strong support for Naqvi’s leadership. He also acknowledged the contributions of Jay Shah, former BCCI president and current ICC chairman.

“Under Jay Shah’s guidance, the ACC reached key milestones, such as securing record-breaking Asia Cup commercial rights and introducing new development pathways,” Silva noted.

He wished Naqvi success and expressed confidence in the ACC’s continued progress.

Looking Ahead with Optimism

Under Naqvi’s leadership, the ACC will prioritize youth engagement, development programs, and stronger cricket infrastructure. His appointment signals a renewed focus on innovation and unity. The organization hopes to elevate Asian cricket to greater global prominence in the coming years.
