Sealdah Court Confirms Guilt of Sanjay Rai in RG Kar Murder

Civic volunteer Sanjay Rai was found guilty in the RG Kar murder-rape case, with Judge Anirban Das confirming his guilt based on the evidence presented during the court session.

Saturday,kolkata – Civic volunteer Sanjar Rai convicted in RG Kar murder-rape case. Sitting in the courtroom at 2.30 pm on Saturday, Judge Anirban Das made it clear that Sanjay Rai is guilty of the facts that have emerged.Sanjay was also informed that his maximum sentence could be death penalty. Still, Sanjay said, “I am being framed.”

The court relied on forensic reports which pointed to the involvement of Roy in the incident, placing his DNA at the scene and on the person of the deceased doctor.Sessions judge Anirban Das stated that the maximum possible sentence for Roy would be the death penalty, while the minimum possible sentence would be life imprisonment.

Background

The court was deciding the fate of Roy, the principal accused in the gruesome rape-murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar medical college and hospital.

The incident, which occurred in August 2024, caused with the High Court transferring the matter to the CBI, which filed its chargesheet before the sessions court. The matter even travelled up to the Supreme Court, which took it up suo moto to frame guidelines for workplace safety of doctors and to monitor the investigation

After that, Sanjay was brought. The courtroom was so crowded that it was difficult for Sanjay to enter. The judge asked everyone to speak slowly. The safety of the accused is very important here.

Judge: Is there any stay in Supreme Court?

Judge: It was alleged against you that you entered the hospital in the early hours of the morning and assaulted the doctor on duty. He held his throat, pressed his face. Sexual offense is committed on him. He died because of it. Sections 64 and 103 frame the charge. It proves that you are accused.

Judge: The sentence is not less than 10 years. May be lifelong. Section 64 BNS punishable with 25 years or life imprisonment. Can also be death penalty.

JUDGE: The way you killed him carries a maximum penalty of death, a minimum of 10 years. May be punished on Monday.

Sanjay: I am being framed. I had a rudraksha necklace around my neck. It can tear apart in a collision. Why was it not found?

Judge: As far as I’m concerned, you’re guilty. I will listen on Monday.
