Indian skipper Virat Kohli made headlines during a press conference ahead of India’s tour of South Africa. During the candid conference, Kohli revealed made accusations and revealed details that indicate a communication gap between him and the BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India]. In September 2020, Kohli announced his decision to step down as T20 captain via an Instagram post. The batsman, who is current captain of red ball cricket said that Saurav Ganguly’s comments about the board asking him to stay on are ‘inaccurate’. Ganguly is the president of BCCI and made above mentioned comments during an interview with a leading newspaper earlier this month. Apart from this, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal on Tuesday claimed that Kohli had asked for a long rest. Kohli refuted the same and said that he is always available for selection. The board of selectors also decided that captaincy for the upcoming ODI series between India and South Africa would go to Rohit Sharma. While elaborating on the same, Kohli said he received the information during a call from Chetan Sharma, the chief selector BCCI. During the call, the two also finalised the squad for the three match test series between India and South Africa. This series, which starts from December 26 will include three test matches, followed by an ODI series of three matches. Virat Kohli praised Rohit Sharma and claimed that the latter will have his full support in white ball cricket. Rumours of a rift between the two senior players had been circulating for more than two years now. As of now, BCCI hasn’t responded to Kohli’s comments.
