How PM Modi transformed Kashi city | Anushka Writes
In 2014, then former Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi chose Varanasi as his Lok Sabha constituency. Over the years, he has paid multiple trips to the city, which is widely believed to be the birthplace of Lord Shiva. And on 13th December, PM Modi will visit the holy city for the inauguration of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor. Built on a budget of INR 400 crore, the corridor will connect the famed Kashi Vishwanath templeโs surrounding Mandir Chowk to Lalita ghat. This dream project of the prime minister could go a long way with regards to road connectivity in the city. Ahead of the inauguration, here are some other things PM Modi has done to transform his constituency: Ganga cleaning The Ganga river, which plays host to the โGanga Aartiโ every evening carries a lot of cultural significance. But it is polluted with microplastics and toxic metals such as lead. As part of the central governmentโs Namami Gange scheme, 316 projects were sanctioned for the cleaning of the river. Rudraksh convention centre Inaugurated in June this year, the Rudraksh convention centre has a seating capacity of 1,200. It also includes an art gallery, multi-purpose conference rooms and parking space. The centre is meant to be used for conventions and international co-operation. Wireless electricity connection Power cuts used to be a huge problem in not just Varanasi, but also for most other parts of Uttar Pradesh [UP]. In response, PM Modi launched a scheme in September 2015. As part of the same, the old overhead power cables were taken down and replaced with underground cable connections. The project was completed in 2 years. Today, the city is now โwirelessโ.
