How Yogi Adityanath transformed UP in 5 years | Anushka writes
Due to its huge population, land size and prime location, Uttar Pradesh [UP] is generally considered to be an important state from a political point of view. And with Vidhan Sabha elections next February, the tenure of incumbent chief minister Yogi Adityanath will come to an end. There’s no doubt that the state underwent a massive transformation during those 5 years. Let’s take a look at some of the notable achievements of Yogi’s government: Infrastructure In August this year, Yogi himself said that ‘massive infrastructure development in Uttar Pradesh our key achievement’. Recently, the foundation stone was laid down for Jewar Airport. The proposed airport, located in the Gautam Buddha district, is expected to take some of the load from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport [IGI]. And many are saying that it is expected to be Asia’s largest airport. Speaking of transport, multiple highways are currently in construction such as Ganga Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway and Bundelkhand Expressway. COVID Management The COVID-19 pandemic had a deep impact on the economies of many states. But the UP government were able to manage the situation through door-to-door testing in villages. The World Health Organisation [WHO] also praised the same and said that the model should be followed by other states. Reduced Crime Until 4-5 years ago, crime used to be a big problem in the state. Today, cases of molestation or assault against women have decreased in number, due to the anti-Romeo squad. The squad, which was launched in 2017 has arrested 14,454 people in connection with such cases. Apart from this, many of the slaughterhouses have closed down. Economic development The improved economy is another highlight of Yogi Adityanath’s tenure. The ‘chunotiyon main talaashe avsar’, a 65-page booklet from the state government’s information and publicity development revealed that UP’s GSDP [Gross State Domestic Development] has gone from 10.9 lakh crore to 21.73 crore in four years. Uttar Pradesh currently ranks 3rd on the state wise GDP index. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. The BJP government also has major achievements including development of defense corridor, better maintenance of public buildings [paan and tobacco were banned in government buildings in 2017], increased foreign investment and more. With so much positive transformation in the state, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the upcoming elections result in a second term for Yogi.
