Delhi’s Power Crisis: The Real Reason

Damodar valley corporation & NCTP were recently asked by the central government to increase supply to the Delhi NCR region. The order comes after CM Arvind Kejriwal letter wrote a letter to the Centre, warning about coal shortage earlier in the month.

The primary reasons for the increase in supply is to avoid potential shortage which might be caused due to coal shortage. Meanwhile, the central government said attributed the suddenly increased international prices to the rainy weather.

In its official statement, the Union Ministry of Power listed 5 reasons that may be contributing factors for the power crisis.   Some of them include sudden increase in power consumption during the pandemic and failure to build adequate coal stocks before the onset of mission.  

It will be interesting to see if these precautions by the government prove effective.
