Delhi LG Orders ‘Pink Force’ Near Schools, Colleges & Metro Stations For Women’s Safety

New Delhi: To strengthen women’s and children’s safety in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed Delhi Police to form a special ‘Pink Force’.

This will be a patrolling unit of trained women police personnel. It will be deployed near schools, colleges, metro stations and other sensitive places. The aim is to increase police visibility in public places and ensure quick action when needed.

LG said there can be no compromise on women’s safety.

LG Sandhu gave the direction on Tuesday during a meeting with senior Delhi Police officers (ACP and above) at the Police Headquarters auditorium. Delhi Police Commissioner was also present. This was LG’s second visit to Police HQ after June 24.

He said he wants to know the ground impact of police initiatives, public feedback and areas needing improvement, not just new schemes.

Key Directions Given By LG: _ Citizen-Centric Policing

Every police station should be a place where a citizen feels heard, helped and safe. He ordered better coordination between police stations, beat officers and local communities. He asked to increase foot and bike patrolling in crime-prone areas.

Digital Tracking of Complaints

LG ordered a digital tracking system for public hearing complaints. Every complaint will be acknowledged, tracked within a timeline and action will be taken. If it belongs to another department, it will be sent immediately.

Operation Shishtachar To Continue

Action against eve-teasing and harassment in public places will continue. On the lines of Goa Police’s ‘Pink Force’, Delhi will also have a women-centric patrolling unit for sensitive times and locations.

Focus on Children Safety

LG ordered regular awareness programs in schools on POCSO law, child safety, cybercrime, drug abuse and road safety. A nodal officer will be appointed in each police district and a quarterly plan will be made. Police stations will also hold sports activities for children aged 5 to 15 with help of schools and RWAs.

Drug and Cyber Crime

He asked to intensify intelligence-based action against drug trafficking under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. He asked to increase capacity of police stations in cybercrime cases.

Traffic Management

Identify major traffic jam spots and monitor them continuously. Increase police visibility during peak hours and strengthen real-time monitoring through CCTV and traffic control room.

Welfare of Police Personnel

LG ordered timely grievance hearing at headquarters, timely promotion for lower-rank and women personnel, and developing police colonies as ‘Model Zero-Waste Colonies’. He reiterated zero tolerance for corruption.
