Toto Services Stop in Uttarpara as Drivers Protest

Toto services stopped in Uttarpara, Hooghly, on Saturday morning.

The drivers stopped working after hearing that totos would not be allowed on G.T. Road. They feared that their vehicles could be stopped by the police.

Toto drivers from Balikhali gathered near Uttarpara Police Station. They carried placards and put saffron flags on their totos. They demanded alternative jobs if they are not allowed to drive totos.

One placard said, “Do not misunderstand toto drivers.”
Toto Union leader Tapas Pal said, “Give us another job. We will not drive totos.”

Uttarpara BJP MLA Dipanjan Chakraborty said the government should think about the drivers’ jobs before taking any decision. He also said that alternative routes could be considered to reduce traffic on G.T. Road.
