Nadda to Review Delhi H1N1 Situation Amid Rise in Cases

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda will meet Delhi’s Health Minister and senior health officials on Friday to review the H1N1 situation in the national capital amid reports of a rise in swine flu cases. The meeting will assess the current situation, disease surveillance and the preparedness of hospitals and health authorities to handle a possible increase in cases.

Officials are expected to review the availability of testing facilities, medicines, treatment and hospital beds, while also examining measures being taken to monitor and contain the spread of H1N1.

The review comes amid humid and fluctuating weather conditions in Delhi, which can contribute to the spread of seasonal respiratory infections. Health experts have advised people to remain alert to flu-like symptoms and seek medical attention when required. H1N1, commonly known as swine flu, is caused by the influenza A (H1N1) virus. Common symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body ache, headache, chills and fatigue. The infection can cause serious complications in some vulnerable groups.

Nadda has previously stressed the need for coordination between the Centre, Delhi government, municipal authorities and healthcare institutions to tackle seasonal diseases. The latest meeting is expected to determine whether existing surveillance systems and healthcare facilities are adequately prepared to respond to the reported increase in cases.
