Red Fort Threat Shakes Delhi Ahead of Independence Day

The Delhi High Court received a bomb threat email on Friday morning, a day before Independence Day, prompting a major security operation across the court premises. The email warned that the Red Fort would be targeted on August 15 and referred to attackers dressed in khaki.
The threat was received at around 11:43 am, following which the authorities activated the standard security protocol. The Registrar General of the Delhi High Court remained in contact with the Delhi Police as security measures were stepped up.
A bomb disposal squad, sniffer dog teams and fire personnel were deployed to conduct extensive searches of the court complex. Security teams checked the premises for any suspicious objects or explosive material, but nothing suspicious was found. The threat was subsequently declared a hoax by the authorities. However, security checks were intensified in view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations and heightened security across the national capital.
The email specifically mentioned the Red Fort and warned, โLal Qila ta nishana hove gaโ, meaning the Red Fort would be targeted. It also referred to those allegedly carrying out the bombing as being dressed in khaki.
The incident comes amid heightened security arrangements in Delhi ahead of Independence Day on August 15, with security agencies maintaining increased vigilance around key government and public locations.
