Rota Virus Outbreak in Kolkata: Vaccine Failing to Stop Spread, Children’s Hospitals Overwhelmed

A deadly outbreak of Rota Virus has hit Kolkata, with multiple children being admitted to hospitals across the city. What’s alarming is that many of these children had received the Rota Virus vaccine, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the vaccine against the current strain.
According to reports, a private hospital in Kolkata has seen 11 admissions in the past week alone, with 8 cases being severe. The virus is spreading rapidly, with symptoms including severe diarrhea and vomiting.
Experts are urging parents to take precautions, including boiling water before consumption and maintaining good hygiene practices. “The virus spreads through contaminated food and water, so it’s crucial to be vigilant,” said a pediatrician.The Rota Virus vaccine is typically administered in 3 doses starting at 6 weeks of age, but the current outbreak has raised questions about its efficacy.
