Bangladesh Election Outcome Prompts Border Alert Call By Adhikari

Senior BJP leader and West Bengal Assembly’s Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, on Sunday raised security concerns along the India-Bangladesh border following the outcome of Bangladesh’s 2026 elections.
Citing results from districts such as satkhira and Rangpur, located across from border areas of West Bengal – Adhikari claimed that Jamaat-e-Islami secured 68 seats. He said the political shift across the border demands closer monitoring, especially in regions adjoining the Siliguri corridor, which he described as a crucial passage connecting mainland India to the Northeast.
Calling the situation a “new geopolitical reality” the BJP leader urged faster completion of border fencing and stricter measures to prevent infiltration. He alleged that land required by the Border Security Force (BSF) for fencing has not been handed over smoothly by the State Government, despite directions from the Calcutta High Court.
Adhikari asserted that border protection should take precedence over “vote-bank politics” and maintained that stronger coordination between the Centre and the State is essential. He added that West Bengal’s security is inseparable from India’s overall national security.
