More than 800 people have gone missing in Delhi within the first two weeks of January 2026, exposing a deepening safety crisis in the national capital. Police records show that women and children, especially teenage girls, are the most affected.
From January 1 to 15, Delhi Police received 807 missing person complaints. Of these, 509 involve women and girls, while 298 relate to men. Only 235 people have been traced so far, leaving 572 cases pending.
This spike mirrors a much larger, long-running trend. In 2025 alone, Delhi registered over 24,500 missing persons cases, with women forming the majority. Looking at the past decade, more than 2.3 lakh people have been reported missing in the city, and close to 52,000 cases are still unresolved.
Minors continue to be at the centre of the crisis. During the first half of January, 191 children and teenagers were reportedly missing – roughly 13 everyday. Teenagers make up most of these cases, with 169 adolescents missing, including 138 girls.
A majority of them are yet to be traced. Adult disappearances also remain high. Between January 1 and 15, police recorded 616 missing adults, including 363 women and 253 men. Over 400 of these adults have not been located so far.
