Army Day Celebrations Across the Country
Army Day commorates the historic day in 1949, when Field Marshal K.M Cariappa became the first Indian commander-in-chief of the Indian Army, taking command from British leadership- marking a key milestone in independent India’s military heritage.
In 2026, the celebration included a grand public Army Day Parade in Jaipur– the first time the event was held outside a cantonment area- showcasing military equipment, cultural performances and a display of India’s defence capabilities to the public.
Events across the country also honoured veterans, Veer Naris (widows of martyrs turned officers or leaders), and families of service members, underscoring the deep bond between the armed forces and Indian Society.
Looking Ahead
Both President Murmu and PM Modi’s messages on Army Day 2026 reaffirmed a unified tribute to India’s armed forces- emphasizing valour, sacrifice and an unwavering commitment to the nation’s sovereignity and peace. Their words reflected not just respect for past achievements but also confidence in the Army’s readiness for future challenges as India continues its journey toward security and progress.
