Woman stabbed to death inside temple in East Delhi, one arrested

New Delhi : A 48-year-old female devotee was brutally stabbed to death inside a temple in the Mansarovar Park area of East Delhi. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon. Police said that shortly after the incident, a woman accused in the case was arrested. It has also been reported that the knife used in the murder has been recovered.

According to police sources, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at a temple inside the DDA Flats complex. The woman was offering prayers when she was attacked. Around 12 noon, the police received a call reporting a stabbing. The deceased woman has been identified as Kusum Sharma, a resident of the Mansarovar Park area. It is reported that she sustained multiple injuries to her head and upper body. She was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Gautam informed, “We have detained the main accused, a woman named Anchal Saxena. The weapon used in the murder has also been recovered.” Police further stated that the preliminary investigation revealed that the detained woman, along with another person, repeatedly attacked Kusum Sharma with a knife, resulting in her death. The DCP said, “It appears that the murder was committed due to an old enmity, but further investigation is underway. Multiple investigative teams have been formed to solve the case.” The police also formed a special team to catch the attackers, and later, one of the accused was detained.

The police are examining CCTV footage from the DDA Flats, nearby roads, and the park to determine where the accused went before and after the murder. According to reports, technology is being used to identify the other accused and local intelligence inputs are also being utilized. A forensic team has also inspected the crime scene.

Although the exact motive for the murder is not yet known, the police initially suspect it to be due to personal enmity. Officials said, “All angles, including personal disputes, are being examined. No possibility is being ruled out.” At present, family members of the deceased, neighbours, and local residents are being questioned to gather detailed information about the incident. A murder case has been registered at the Mansarovar Park police station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
