Mr. Aroop Biswas has resigned after the scam resulted Messi Mess

Mr. Biswas even sent a resigned letter to the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee. In a handwritten letter, he asked to be relieved of his duties. He wanted an unbiased and fair investigation of the incident to be done. The riot broke out when some ticket holders lost control. They had bought the tickets to watch Messi. They got violent because he had left the stadium earlier than expected. This was due to the alleged severe mismanagement.
Even union cabinet proving officer of Bengal confirmed that the Chief Minister has received the resignation of Mr. Biswas. She will also be in charge of the sports department herself until she concludes the investigation over the incident. However, there is yet to be an official statement by the government about the resignation, dated 12 December. This resignation was accompanied by the gross action against senior police people. The state government has resolved to give show-cause notices to the senior officers including the Director General of Police, Mr. Rajeev Kumar. Also, Mr. Aneesh Sarkar, the Deputy Commissioner Police of Bidhannagar has been suspended.
The government issued a directive. It instructed the DGP to clarify why mass mismanagement occurred. It also asked why security breaches took place in the stadium. It also raised the question of why proper coordination with the stakeholders was absent. Stakeholders included the private event organiser, and coordination was needed to ensure order and safety in the high profile event. The order also established that Mr. Sarkar faced disciplinary action. This was due to alleged negligence in fulfilling his duty on the day of the incident. In the meantime, Mr. Satadru Dutta, the organiser of Lionel Messi private tour to West Bengal was arrested just hours after the incident. Lapses in crowd control, coordination and poor planning were cited by authorities. On 14 December a district court at North 24 Parganas kept Mr. Dutta in two weeks of police custody.
The Salt Lake Stadium incident has provoked serious political outrage. The opposition parties are raising questions about how the state government handled international events. They also question the methods of crowd control and the preparedness to handle law and order. The episode has highlighted the standards and protocols of managing events. It has also exposed issues related to security and responsibility at the top tiers of administration.
There are ongoing investigations. The state government has made it clear that the responsibility will be allocated at all levels. More action might be taken depending on the findings of the investigations.
