Mumbai

Mumbai, which is often referred to as the financial capital of India, has achieved an outstanding global recognition after getting ranked as the fifth happiest city in the world. But the achievement does not stop only with this, Mumbai has also achieved the rank of happiest city in Asia as according to the Time Out City Life Index, 2025 edition. The ranking is based on a survey of more than 18,000 people from big cities across the world.

The survey took their decision based upon the answers given by the residents regarding several questions about happiness in their everyday lives, including satisfaction with their cityโ€™s culture, community spirit, food, social life, and overall positivity.

According to the survey, nearly 94 percent of the Mumbai residents feel that the city makes them happy, also 89 percent of them said that they feel happier in Mumbai rather than in any other city they have lived or visited. Around 88 percent of them believe that people in Mumbai generally seem to be happy, and 87 percent agreed that the overall happiness of their city has grown in recent years. These numbers placed Mumbai ahead of many other big cities around the globe, making it more than an economic hub, a place where people find real happiness and peace in their day to day life experiences.

According to the survey of Time Out, the happiest cities were determined based upon the percentage of positive responses to the questions focused on local happiness, positiveness, and city life satisfaction. Though the results are based upon perceptions rather than strict data such as infrastructure, development or income growth, they portray an important aspect of urban wellbeing. The result boldly shows that the residents are connected to their city both emotionally and culturally. In the case of Mumbai, this happiness is often attributed to the vibrant lifestyle of the residents, but not only lifestyle, from diverse food culture, amazing films to the collective spirit of the people of Mumbai, these all play significant roles in uniting people from various backgrounds.

This recognition of Mumbai has been widely welcomed in India, as it strengthens the cityโ€™s reputation as a city of dreams and hopes. Despite serious issues like overcrowding, traffic, and high living costs, it is quite clear that the residents of the city continue to find reasons to celebrate, to be together and to spread the energy of happiness with others. Their cityโ€™s energy and opportunities are not limited only to the financial benefits, it is flourishing and making sure to be beneficial to the human heart too.

The inclusion of Mumbai in the top five happiest cities across the world highlights the idea that happiness is not limited only to materialistic wealth but also to a communityโ€™s perspective towards happiness, unity, shared experiences and sense of belonging. As Mumbai continues to grow as a global hub of business and creativity, this achievement highlights the spirit of the people of Mumbai who turn their everyday challenges into reasons to smile.
