Gorakhpur Market Tragedy: Man Shoots Wife Dead, Arrested on Spot

Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking incident unfolded on Jail Road in Gorakhpur’s Shahpur area on Wednesday evening when a man shot his wife dead in a crowded market. The accused, Vishwakarma Chauhan, was arrested at the scene by police after the crime.

What Happened

According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place around 8 PM when Mamta Chauhan, wife of the accused, stepped out of a photo studio. An argument between the couple quickly escalated into a physical altercation. In a sudden act of rage, Vishwakarma pulled out a pistol hidden in his helmet and fired two shots one striking Mamta’s chest and another her hand.

Bystanders rushed her to a nearby private hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead.

The Accused’s Words

Even after the shooting, Vishwakarma reportedly remained at the spot for nearly 25 minutes, repeatedly telling onlookers:

“I was very troubled by her.”

Police soon arrived and took him into custody.

Family and Background

Vishwakarma and Mamta had been married for 15 years.

For the past 18 months, the couple had been living separately due to constant disputes.

Mamta was staying with their 13-year-old daughter in a rented house in Shahpur while working at a private firm.

Shahpur Police Station SHO, Neeraj Rai, confirmed that an investigation is underway. Vishwakarma is now in police custody and further interrogation is in progress.
