A midnight disaster struck Virar East when Ramabai Apartment, a four-storey building, collapsed, killing 17 residents and injuring nine others.

At 12:05 AM, residents heard a deafening noise before the structure crumbled onto a nearby chawl. The apartment, built in 2011, had nearly 50 flats, of which 12 collapsed instantly. Survivors described the fall as “sudden and merciless.”
