PM Modi Inaugurates Dwarka Expressway and UER-II in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two major highway projects in Delhi-NCR on Saturday. He launched the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) at an event in Rohini.
Dwarka Expressway Details
The Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway spans 10.1 km. Authorities built it at a cost of ₹5,360 crore. The expressway includes a 5.1 km tunnel that connects directly to IGI Airport. It improves connectivity to Yashobhoomi convention centre, Delhi Metro lines, Bijwasan railway station, and Dwarka bus depot. The stretch runs from Shiv Murti intersection to the Delhi-Haryana border.
Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)
UER-II stretches 75.7 km and cost ₹5,580 crore. It forms a semi-circular ring road around Delhi, linking Alipur to Mahipalpur. The route passes through Rohini, Mundka, Najafgarh, and Dwarka. The project also includes spurs towards Sonipat and Bahadurgarh. Construction reused nearly 10 lakh metric tonnes of material from Delhi’s landfill waste.
Traffic and Environmental Benefits
Together, the projects cost around ₹11,000 crore. Officials say they will ease congestion on Delhi-NCR roads. Commuters from Noida, Gurugram, and other nearby areas will get faster access to IGI Airport. Smoother traffic flow is expected to reduce vehicle emissions and pollution in the region.
Ceremony and Remarks
The inauguration started at 12:30 pm in Rohini. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, and Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini attended. PM Modi called the projects a step towards world-class infrastructure. He said the highways will improve ease of living and enhance Delhi’s urban connectivity.
Impact on Commuters
These new routes provide faster airport access and alternate pathways to NH-48. Residents and businesses in NCR can expect shorter travel times. Experts predict these highways will also support regional growth, including real estate, logistics, and commercial development.
