Woman Brutally Murdered in Madhya Pradesh After Refusing Conversion and Marriage
A 35-year-old woman in Navara village of Burhanpur district, Madhya Pradesh, lost her life on August 1, 2025, after a man allegedly murdered her for rejecting his marriage proposal and converting her religion. Police quickly arrested the accused, Sheikh Raees, and began an investigation. The case has raised serious concerns about women’s safety and delayed police response to harassment complaints.

Accused Enters Home and Kills Woman
The victim, Bhagyashree Namdev Dhanuk, was alone at home when Raees reportedly broke in and attacked her with a knife, cutting her throat and stabbing her multiple times. Her family members returned shortly after and found her lying in a pool of blood. They immediately called the police, who launched a search and caught the accused within a few hours.
Villagers Protest and Demand Accountability
Outraged by the incident, villagers blocked a nearby road and held a protest, demanding strict punishment for the accused. They also urged officials to demolish illegal properties allegedly owned by Raees. Several political leaders and former ministers visited the victim’s family and promised legal and financial support.
Public Questions Police Response
The murder has sparked questions about police efficiency in handling harassment cases. Locals criticized the delayed action despite earlier warnings. In response, the district police promised to strengthen their complaint-handling system, especially in rural areas.
