Superman Soars to Second Weekend Box Office Victory
July 21, 2025 – Kolkata, India:
According to DC studios, James Gunn’s newly released Superman movie is still dominating the global box office in its second weekend of its release by collecting $57.3 million in ticket sales and remaining in the number one position. During the second weekend of its release in the North American market, Superman saw a major 54% drop, which is typical for a major movie released in the summer.
Superman Surpasses all other new releases
As of until now the James Gunn movie is already cooking at the box office and surpassing all the new releases such as The Smurfs, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Eddington. However, the main test will arrive next weekend when Marvel’s upcoming movie Fanstastic Four: First Steps gets released by the Walt Disney Company. The new DC movie has made $400 million at the global box office and is on its way to making $1 billion. However, better reviews and strong audience reactions will remain the main reason for its box office venture for the massive budget movie in the upcoming weeks.
The new DC Studios hopes to continue its legacy and launch its new 10-year plan for the new company. After the old DC Extended Universe went into total loss and collapse, it was Peter Safran and James Gunn who became the new CEO’s of the company and are currently heading the operations for its new movie releases.
The Competition in the Box Office
The newly released movies The Smurfs, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Errington failed to make an impact at the global box office due to the competition with James Gunn’s movie. I Know What You Did Last Summer opened its box office with $13 million with a budget of $18 million, while on the other hand, The Smurfs opened its venture with just $11 million. Ad Aster’s Eddington opened its box office venture with $4.2 million, which shows Joaquin Phoenix’s sheriff takes on a mayor(played by Pedro Pascal) in a small Mexican town.
On the other hand, Brad Pitt’s F1 movie and Scarlett Johansson’s Jurassic World Rebirth are still going strong, where Apple Studios led the F1 movie, collecting $460.8 million, and Universal Pictures led Jurassic World Rebirth, collecting $648 million worldwide.
About the Superman movie
The movie stars David Corenswet in the titular role, along with Rachel Brosnahan as his love interest Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The movie tells the story of Superman’s actions, which are questioned after he gets involved in international and domestic disputes, which allows his arch-rival, Lex Luthor, the opportunity to completely remove the Man of Steel from the public eye.
