Operation Sindoor Airstrikes: India Launches Cross-Border Strikes.
New Delhi, May 7, 2025
In a bold military operation titled Operation Sindoor airstrikes, the Indian Air Force launched a series of targeted strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early Tuesday. This high-precision mission came in direct response to the deadly terrorist ambush on Indian civilians and soldiers in Jammu and Kashmirโs Pahalgam region.

Operation Sindoor Airstrikes Begin After Deadly Pahalgam Attack
At approximately 3:30 AM IST, a squadron of Indian Rafale jets took off from a forward base in Punjab. Within minutes, they crossed the Line of Control (LoC) and executed pre-planned bombing runs. According to officials, nine strategic terror facilities were struck across PoK and the Pakistani provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
These included safe houses, training centers, and munitions stockpiles associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The most significant impact occurred in Bahawalpur, known for harboring Lashkar leadership.
Operation Sindoor airstrikes used precision weapons and tactical planning.
Indian forces used SCALP air-to-ground cruise missiles, known for deep penetration capability and minimal collateral damage. Aerial surveillance continued for over two hours post-strike to assess destruction. The Indian Army confirmed real-time satellite footage verified complete destruction of primary targets.
Sources said Indian intelligence had monitored unusual activity at these sites since the Pahalgam attack. Military planners coordinated with the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) and National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) to select targets.
Pakistan Launches Counteraction, India Defends with S-400
Shortly after the strikes, Pakistani drones and low-range ballistic missiles attempted to breach Indian airspace near Punjabโs border. Indian defense systems, including the Russian-made S-400 Triumf batteries, successfully neutralized these threats.
While minor debris fell near Tarn Taran district, no casualties or damage to civilian areas occurred. Villagers in border regions were evacuated to bunkers as a precaution. Meanwhile, Indian drones retaliated by disabling a Pakistani surveillance post along the LoC.
Global Reaction to Sindoor military strikes
The operation drew immediate international response. U.S. State Department urged both nations to exercise restraint but acknowledged Indiaโs right to self-defense. France and Israel, key defense partners, supported Indiaโs claim that the strikes were โnon-escalatory and preventive.โ
Pakistanโs Foreign Ministry, however, condemned the airstrikes and called an emergency session at the UN Security Council. China maintained a neutral stance but urged dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Domestic Security Measures and Citizen Alerts
In India, all airports in Punjab, Jammu, and Rajasthan were placed on high alert. Authorities diverted over 30 domestic and international flights as a safety measure. Metro services in Delhi continued but with intensified police presence.
The Ministry of Home Affairs directed paramilitary deployments in sensitive zones. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were also dispatched to northern districts for emergency preparedness.
Indiaโs Message Against Terrorism is Unmistakable
The Sindoor military strikes mark one of the boldest counter-terror offensives by India in recent years. With minimal civilian disruption and precise execution, the operation sends a clear message: India will respond decisively to any threat to its sovereignty. While the region remains volatile, officials emphasize that diplomatic channels are open, though national security will remain the top priority.
