Dev Patel To Write and Direct his second film ‘The Peasant’

The project is a high-octane revenge thriller that draws inspiration from classic films such as Braveheart and John Wick.

Following the success of his directorial debut ‘Monkey Man’, actor and director Dev Patel is currently preparing for his upcoming project, a medieval revenge thriller. The film is titled ‘The Peasant.’

Patel is is serving as the film’s director, star, co-writer, and producer, with his production company Minor Realm also involved in the project.

The project is a high-octane revenge thriller that draws inspiration from classic films such as Braveheart and John Wick. It also incorporates elements of medieval mythology, as seen in the legend of King Arthur.

The film, set in 1300s, is about a shepherd who wages a relentless crusade against a band of mercenary knights after they ravage his village. He is revealed to be much more than an ordinary shepherd, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is being produced by Thunder Road Pictures. The company is known for producing notable action films such as John Wick and Sicario. Fifth Season is also providing financial support for the project. This collaboration marks the second partnership between Thunder Road and Patel, following their work together on his debut project.

The project initially garnered attention when it was included in the 2023 Black List – a compilation of most popular unproduced screenplays in the Hollywood industry.

The original screenplay written by Will Dunn, was about a Pope-connected shepherd in Italy. The project was initially developed by Fifth Season before being put on a Black List. Under the direction of The Green Knight star, the setting has changed from Italy to India.

Patel and Dunn are collaborating on the new drafts, according to THR. With his debut film received so well both by critics and the audiences around the world, the creatives and producers of The Peasant are hoping that this collaboration is the birth of a new franchise.
