Tragic Accident in Vadodara: Law students Reckless Driving Claims a Life

On the night of March 14, 2025, a tragic accident occurred in Vadodara, Gujarat, when a speeding car crashed into multiple two-wheelers, killing a woman and injuring several others. The vehicle was allegedly driven by 23-year-old law student Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, who was suspected to be intoxicated at the time. The accident took place around 12:30 AM in the Karelibaug area, leaving the city in shock.
The accused, Rakshit Chaurasia, is a law student whose reckless driving caused devastation. The victim, Hemani Patel, was riding her scooter with her minor daughter when the accident occurred. Patel died on the spot, while her daughter and other injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported that Chaurasia was behaving erratically after the crash. In videos circulating on social media, he was seen exiting the vehicle and allegedly shouting, โanother round, another round.โ His behavior sparked public outrage, especially given Gujaratโs strict prohibition laws.
The accident took place in the Karelibaug area of Vadodara, a well-populated part of the city. The road where the incident occurred is frequently used by commuters, making the reckless driving even more dangerous.
According to reports, Chaurasia was driving at high speed when he lost control and crashed into two scooters. He dragged the riders for several meters before the car finally stopped. While he claimed that he lost control due to a pothole and that his speed was around 50 km/h, eyewitnesses and initial investigations suggest otherwise.
The police are conducting a thorough inquiry, including medical tests, to determine whether Chaurasia was under the influence of alcohol. If found guilty, he could face severe legal consequences under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including reckless driving and culpable homicide.
This incident has reignited debates about road safety and law enforcement in Gujarat. Despite being a dry state, cases of alcohol consumption and reckless behavior continue to emerge. The opposition has questioned how alcohol remains accessible and why stricter checks are not in place to prevent such tragedies. The case also highlights the dangers of negligent driving and the importance of stricter traffic regulations to prevent similar accidents in the future. The victims’ families and the people of Vadodara now await justice for the life lost and the injuries caused by this horrifying accident.
