‘Madarsa-Breed Bigot’: BJP’s Sanju Verma Accused of Communal Insult on National TV

A recent discussion on CNN News18 took an unpleasant turn when BJP spokeswoman Sanju Verma referred to Congress spokesperson Dr. Shama Mohamed as a “Madarsa-bred bigot.” This comment during a tense debate has sparked widespread criticism and raised concerns about the nature of political discussions on TV.

Dr. Shama Mohamed was clearly upset by the remark and shared her feelings on social media. She posted on X (formerly Twitter): “The BJP spokeswoman @Sanju_Verma_ called me a ‘Madarsa-bred bigot’ during a talk on @CNNnews18. It’s disheartening that the host, Akansha, didn’t step in to correct her.”

Her post quickly attracted attention, with many people criticizing Verma’s comment as offensive and divisive. Some people say that this kind of language not only attacks people personally but also makes the political situation more divided.

The BJP hasn’t made an official comment about this issue yet, and CNN News18 and the show’s host, Akansha, haven’t said anything either. The fact that nothing was done during the live show has made people wonder about the role of media moderators in keeping things respectful and making sure there’s a polite conversation during political discussions.

This event is just one more example of political debates on Indian TV turning into personal attacks and using harsh language. This has led to people asking for stricter rules and more responsibility in media talks. As the country gets ready for important state elections, how people talk in public is a big worry. Many are asking political leaders and media people to set a better example.
