RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump Wraps Up Day 2 of the RNC with Emotional Speech
Milwaukee, WI: In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the closing of Day 2 of the Republican National ConventionโRepublican National Committee Co-Chair Lara Trump spoke during the last twenty minutes. She was the last speaker of the evening, speaking to a teary-eyed crowd still processing the assassination attempt on her father-in-law, former President Donald Trump in raw emotions about the traumatic event.
“Nothing prepares you for a moment like that,” said Lara Trump, referring to Saturday’s Pennsylvania shooting at Trump’s rally, in which one person died and three others, including the former president, were wounded.
She told of a drastically rewritten speech since the attack. “Our family has faced our fair share of death threats, mysterious powders sent to our homes, tasteless and violent comments directed towards us on social media, but none of that prepares you as a daughter-in-law to watch in real time someone try to kill a person you love,” she said.
Lara Trump also described the personal impact that the incident had had on her as a mother. “None of that prepares you as a mother to quickly reach for the remote and turn your young children away from the screen so that they’re not witness to something that scars the memory of their grandpa for the rest of their lives.”
In her speech, Lara Trump continued to honor the former president’s place in political history, also adding that he had been a good father and grandfather. She emphasized the Love and Unity element among the supporters after the attempt on his life.
“You would be hard-pressed to find and to join a happier group of people coming together over their love for the greatest country on Earth, the United States of America,” she said.
What voters say about what will be on the line from the first term of Donald Trump: immigration reform, progress toward peace in the Middle East, and sweeping prison reform. She shrugged off what she called the “crazy narrative” that another four years under Trump would have disastrous ramifications.
“You didn’t have to love everything that he tweeted, but you cannot deny that we were better off when Donald Trump was in office,” she said.
The speech combined personal reflection and political commentary, but it again left a great impression on the audience as the convention continues.
