Doctors’ Body Voices Concern Over Ineligibility of 8,000 NEET MDS 2024 Candidates

Students across India are demanding the postponement of NEET MDS 2024 as a doctors’ association raises alarm over the ineligibility of around 8,000 candidates due to administrative oversights. The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) has taken to social media to express solidarity with the affected students and vowed to advocate for their cause.

FORDA President Dr. Aviral Mathur acknowledged the gravity of the situation in a series of posts, urging students to share details of their cases. He drew parallels between the current crisis and the missteps of the National Medical Commission (NMC) last year, questioning the feasibility of extending eligibility criteria as was done for NEET PG 2023.

“The recurrence of such administrative lapses is concerning,” Dr. Mathur stated, emphasizing the need for a proactive approach to resolve the underlying issues, even if it means delaying the counseling process.

With the NEET MDS 2024 exam scheduled for March 18, students are rallying for its postponement, citing a multitude of concerns, including eligibility issues and lack of response from authorities.

Supreme Court Order on Eligibility Criteria

The growing calls for postponement come in the wake of a Supreme Court order on February 21, extending the cut-off date for internship completion to March 31, 2024. This directive aimed to accommodate students affected by pandemic-related disruptions and enable their participation in NEET MDS 2024.

However, students have highlighted the disparity between NEET PG and NEET MDS exam schedules, with the former being rescheduled to July 7 and the internship cut-off date set at August 15. They advocate for parity, stressing the toll of uncertainty on their mental well-being.

Authorities Urged to Address Concerns

As the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare grapples with the representation filed by petitioners, students implore authorities to address their concerns promptly. With careers of thousands hanging in the balance, they seek empathy and assistance to ensure a fair and equitable examination process.

The Supreme Court has directed the Union Government to deal with the representation expeditiously, preferably within one week, without expressing an opinion on the merits of the claim. The resolution lies in the discretion of the authorities, who must consider the facts and circumstances of the case.

As the deadline looms, the medical fraternity eagerly awaits a decision that upholds the rights and dignity of aspiring healthcare professionals while ensuring the smooth conduct of the crucial NEET MDS 2024 examination.
