Tragic Suicide: NEET Exam Results Push 19-Year-Old Student to Take His Own Life in Nagpur

Tragic Suicide Shakes Nagpur as Student Ends Life Over NEET Exam Results

Nagpur was plunged into sorrow and shock as a 19-year-old aspiring medical student, Bhavesh Teju Singh Rathore, allegedly took his own life after receiving lower-than-anticipated marks in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The devastating incident occurred on Tuesday night when Rathore hanged himself using a rope tied to the ceiling hook in his room.

Originally from the Karanja Lad tehsil of Washim district, Rathore had moved to Nagpur to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a medical doctor. His aspirations were shattered when the NEET-UG exam results were unveiled, revealing that he had scored 588 out of a total of 720 marks, according to police officials.

Overwhelmed by the disappointment of his scores, the distraught teenager resorted to the extreme step of taking his own life, leaving his family and friends in utter disbelief. Sub-inspector Ravindra Chavan, involved in the investigation, confirmed the presence of a suicide note in Rathore’s room. The note expressed his profound disappointment with the lower marks, indicating that this was the driving force behind his tragic decision.

The news of Rathore’s suicide has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about the intense pressure placed on students preparing for competitive examinations. NEET, one of the most fiercely competitive exams in India, determines admission to medical colleges across the country. The exam’s significance and the high stakes involved often lead to immense stress among students, with the fear of failure casting a dark cloud over their dreams.
