Kolkata Police Rescue Two Boys from Drowning in Hooghly River

Two boys were rescued from drowning in the Hooghly River at Ahiritola Ghat in Kolkata on Monday morning after Kolkata Police personnel spotted them struggling in the water.

The incident took place around 8.30 am. Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel were deployed at the ghat as part of the safety arrangements made by the River Traffic Police for Shravan Utsav. While keeping watch over the area, the team noticed two boys in trouble while they were bathing in the river.
Seeing the boys struggling in the water, ASI Satyajit Banerjee, DMG constable Mithun Mandal and civic volunteer Rajesh Mondal immediately moved into action. The team reached the boys and managed to bring both of them safely out of the river.

The two boys are residents of Keshtopur. After the rescue, they were handed over to North Port Police Station for necessary action.
A police officer praised the quick response of the personnel, saying their timely action helped prevent a possible tragedy.

Police have also urged people visiting the city’s ghats to remain careful while entering the river. Officials advised people not to take risks while bathing and to follow the safety instructions given by the police.
Police teams have been deployed at different ghats to deal with emergencies during Shravan Utsav. However, officials stressed that people must also cooperate and follow safety rules to prevent accidents and save lives.
