Illegal Firecracker Unit Explodes in Champahati, Two Seriously Injured

South 24 Parganas: An illegal firecracker-making unit exploded in Champahati on Thursday, creating panic in the area. Police said at least two people were seriously injured in the blast.
According to police and local residents, firecrackers were being made illegally inside a room located away from the main residential area. The place was reportedly being used under the cover of a fish-farming area.
The explosion happened suddenly at the illegal unit. One of the injured is a woman who, according to police, is a close relative of the unit owner.
A large police team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Atish Biswas, reached the spot soon after the incident. Police and fire officials took steps to control the situation. The area was cordoned off and a search and investigation were started.
After false reports spread on social media claiming that five people had died, Baruipur Police clarified that only two injuries have been officially confirmed so far.
Police have urged people not to believe or share unverified information.
The police are now investigating how the explosion happened and who else may be involved in the illegal firecracker operation. The district administration has also asked residents to report any information about illegal explosive-making or firecracker storage in Champahati and nearby areas.
