Samson’s Masterclass Powers CSK to First Win of the Season Against Delhi Capitals

In IPL 2026, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally managed to get into their groove, emerging victorious against the Delhi Capitals (DC) by a convincing margin of 23 runs. CSK won their first game of the season, with their ‘Yellow Army’ led by an unbroken century by Sanju Samson.

Batted by Delhi Capitals, CSK amassed an intimidating score of 212/2 in their allotted 20 overs. The star of the show was undoubtedly Sanju Samson, whose 115 from just 56 balls*—with 15 fours and 4 sixes—was an absolute exhibition of technique and shot selection.

His accomplice was none other than the sensational Ayush Mhatre, who hammered 59 runs from just 36 deliveries. Their record-breaking 113-run stand shattered the DC bowlers’ confidence. Although the captain Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to time his shots (15 from 18), the middle order managed to propel CSK past the 200-run mark without much difficulty.

D.C.’s Valiant Chase Fails to Deliver

Pursuing a total of 213, D.C. found themselves struggling from the beginning owing to their bowlers’ discipline and control. It was Tristan Stubbs who provided hope through his fighting performance of 60 runs off 38 balls by scoring a few hefty shots. But the run rate was simply beyond reach as the wickets kept falling one after another.

The outstanding bowling performance came from Jamie Overton from Chennai, with figures of 4/18, which changed the course of the game entirely. With his dismissal of Stubbs in the 19th over, the dream of Delhi was finally dashed away. Gurjapneet Singh made quite a name for himself with his maiden wicket in IPL on his very first ball while Anshul Kamboj picked up three important wickets.
