R. N. Ravi Sworn In as 22nd Governor of West Bengal Ahead of 2026 Assembly Elections
R.N. Ravi Sworn In to West Bengal Governor. On March 12, 2026, R. N. Ravi assumed the position of the 22nd Governor of West Bengal. Sujoy Paul administered the oath in Lok Bhavan in Kolkata. The timing is critical since the state is going to have the 2026 Assembly elections. Ravi took over the position of C. V. Ananda Bose who resigned a week before. The ritual depicted the intricate political sentiment in the state.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also present on the occasion and received the new governor by giving him a traditional Bengali stole. Meanwhile, not all the representatives of the opposition party were present. This was a lack of a relaxed political atmosphere preceding the elections. Ravi is not a normal political person.
He was an officer of the Intelligence Bureau and served numerous years in India in the 1976-batch of the IPS. He was involved in security matters in regions such as the Northeast and Jammu and Kashmir. He was also a Deputy National Security Advisor to Ajit Doval and a major figure in the Naga peace talks.
He has worked in the security and administration field; this could influence the way it is run in West Bengal by the governor office. The international borders of the state are lengthy and there is frequent political and social tension when the elections are happening. The entry of Ravi can offer a better coordination at the central level, yet it would also cause political tension with the state one.
