Water Crisis Hits South Kolkata: Areas to Go Dry on Saturday

A large part of south Kolkata is set to face a water crisis on Saturday as the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has announced a shutdown of water supply for maintenance work at the Garden Reach water treatment plant.

The shutdown is scheduled to start at 10 am on Saturday and is expected to last until 6 am on Sunday, affecting areas including Behala, Tollygunge, Jadavpur, Garia, and parts of Chetla, Kalighat, Rashbehari, Kasba, Garfa, Dhakuria, and Golf Green.The KMC has advised residents to store adequate water in advance to mitigate the effects of the temporary shutdown. The maintenance work includes installation of major water valves and electromechanical drives, alongside regular upkeep tasks.

The authorities have assured that the work will be completed as scheduled, and water supply will resume by 6 am on Sunday.Inconvenience is expected in the affected areas, and residents are advised to plan accordingly.
