Wife is at home, yet a young woman gives birth to a child allegedly after being raped by a Trinamool councillor! The party has sprung into action as soon as the complaint surfaced.

Kolkata , West Bengal : Despite being married, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor allegedly raped a young woman repeatedly under the false promise of marriage, which later led to her pregnancy and the birth of a child. When the woman demanded accountability, the councillor allegedly refused to take responsibility and even threatened to kill her if she spoke out.

The shocking incident took place in Rampurhat, West Bengal. After the case became public, the councillor was expelled indefinitely from the party.

Once the young woman gave birth, the rape case came to light, leading to the expulsion of the accused TMC councillor. The Trinamool Congress has once again found itself in the headlines โ€” this time over a serious rape allegation against one of its elected representatives.

The survivor alleged that the councillorโ€™s repeated sexual assaults resulted in her pregnancy and that she later gave birth to a child. According to reports, the accused councillor, Priyonath Sau, who also served as the Vice President of the TMCโ€™s Rampurhat Town Committee, has been removed from the party in light of the allegations.

At a press conference held at the Rampurhat TMC office, Ashish Banerjee, the Deputy Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and MLA of Rampurhat, officially announced Priyonath Sauโ€™s expulsion from the party. Notably, Sau was a two-time elected councillor from Ward No. 8 of the Rampurhat Municipality and held a senior post within the local party committee.

A formal written complaint of rape was lodged at Rampurhat Police Station by the young woman, sparking widespread uproar across the district and intensifying political tensions. The party moved swiftly โ€” within 24 hours โ€” to take disciplinary action.

According to sources, despite being married, Priyonath Sau falsely claimed to be single and allegedly raped the woman multiple times after promising to marry her. When she became pregnant, he refused to marry her, and she eventually gave birth to a child.

The woman stated that she first met Sau in 2015 while trying to get her name added to the voter list. Sau had offered to help her with the voter ID process and invited her to his home, where he began a physical relationship under the pretext of marriage. After she became pregnant, he distanced himself and later threatened her not to speak out, warning her of serious consequences if she did.

Priyonath Sau, however, denied all allegations, calling them false and politically motivated. Despite the FIR being filed, the accused councillor was reportedly seen attending a party meeting soon after โ€” a move that drew further criticism. Following a public outcry, the TMC leadership held a press conference and announced his immediate expulsion from the party.
