Metro Services to be Extended in Kolkata for Durga Puja 2025 Rush

Kolkata, September 2, 2025 – To manage the heavy festive rush during Durga Puja, the Kolkata Metro Railway has announced extended services and additional trains across multiple routes. This decision comes as lakhs of commuters are expected to travel daily during the Puja festivities, beginning in early October.

According to Metro officials, more than 230 trains will run each day during the peak Puja days. Services will continue till late night, ensuring that pandal hoppers can travel safely and conveniently across the city. Special emphasis will be given to North-South Metro Corridor (Dum Dum to Kavi Subhash) and the East-West Metro (Salt Lake to Howrah Maidan), where footfall is expected to be the highest.

A senior Metro Railway spokesperson said, “Every year during Durga Puja, the number of passengers increases drastically. This year, we are preparing for record-breaking numbers, especially with the new East-West Metro stretch operational. Extra trains, extended hours, and additional staff will be deployed to ensure smooth travel.”

The authorities have also planned real-time crowd management systems, enhanced ticket counters, and digital payment options to minimize waiting time for passengers. Safety measures, including increased RPF deployment and CCTV surveillance, will be strengthened to handle the festive crowd.

For the convenience of Puja commuters, Kolkata Metro will also introduce special Puja passes, allowing unlimited travel within certain time slots. This move aims to reduce congestion at ticket counters and provide hassle-free rides.

With these new measures, Kolkata Metro hopes to provide a safe, efficient, and crowd-friendly experience for millions of commuters who will rely on the service during one of the city’s biggest festivals.
