Woman Lured With ₹500, Raped and Robbed by Cook in Nagpur

On August 27, 2025, the Nagpur Crime Branch arrested Rajnish Kumar Dubey, a 50-year-old cook from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, on charges of rape and robbery. He allegedly lured a woman with the promise of ₹500 for one hour of work. Instead, he took her to a nearby multi-storey building, raped her, and robbed her of her two-wheeler, valued at around ₹50,000, and her keypad phone, worth approximately ₹2,000. Dubey admitted his crime during interrogation, and authorities recovered the stolen items.

Ongoing Investigation and Police Findings

Nagpur Police moved quickly once the survivor filed her complaint. The Crime Branch reviewed CCTV footage from the area where the accused allegedly lured the woman with a promise of ₹500. Investigators tracked the man’s movements using both private and government-installed cameras, which showed him leading her toward an isolated location before the crime.

Police also checked local mobile tower dumps to match the suspect’s presence with the timeline provided by the survivor. This digital evidence helped officers narrow down their search. Moreover, the survivor’s statement offered key details about the man’s accent and background, which hinted that he might not be a local.

Within days, the investigation team coordinated with Madhya Pradesh Police and traced the accused to his hometown. They arrested him after confirming his identity with the survivor. Investigators later found that the accused had been working as a cook in Nagpur for the past few months and had no permanent residence in the city. The police are now probing whether he had attempted similar crimes earlier, since his transient lifestyle and lack of local roots raise suspicions. They are also cross-checking his criminal record in Madhya Pradesh.

Accountability Begins with Forensics and Legal Process

Dubey underwent a medical examination and was handed over to the Rana Pratap Nagar police for further investigation. The two-wheeler, the phone, and the suspect are now integral to the pending case. Police will proceed with forensic analysis, victim testimony, and legal filings to ensure a sturdy prosecution under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
